Lunch Beat Boston #1 is right up my alley

on Wed, 03/06/2013 - 20:04

A couple of months ago, Dimitri Gunn told me about an event blooming around the globe called Lunch Beat, a daytime version of a nighttime club experience.  Dmitri wanted to start the trend in Boston. So he got some help from Hubspot's Rebecca Corliss, snagged the social space at Hack+Reduce, some sponsorship from some vendors, Hubspot, and Atlas Ventures, and held a party today.

Lunch Beat has a few of rules in its Manifesto. Among them:

  1. If it's your first lunch at Lunch Beat, you have to dance.
  2. If it's your second, third, or fourth time at Lunch Beat, you have to dance.
  3. Everybody at Lunch

dj shuze (DJ name now deprecated): Turkey Podcast

on Mon, 11/28/2011 - 15:20

I took the opportunity of a lazy, day-after-Thanksgiving Friday morning to pull together a few tunes into a new podcast episode.  As usual, it's available on iTunes (the one dated 11/25/11). If you like it, please be sure to rate it in the iTunes store.

It was kind of a low-energy day for me, so the track selection reflects it. They're still deep & bassy, but they're mostly in a minor key, and definitely more introspective than energy-generating. I don't think it edges over into melancholy, but you'd have thought I did this on a cloudy day. (It wasn't; the day was beautiful).

Still, I'm

New podcast episode posted: Deep House mix

on Wed, 11/02/2011 - 10:25

I did a new mix while the power was out over most of the Boston area this last weekend. (Judy & I were fortunate to only lose power for 5 hours, so I had a lazy Sunday.) You can get it by subscribing to my podcasts on iTunes. I hope you in enjoy it.

(UPDATE 2016 March 3: I've switched to using both dogglounge.com and Mixcloud.com to host my podcasts, because I'm spinning regularly now at the former, and find the latter more helpful for tracklists.)

This one is a mix of Deep House tunes. It's actually where my heart is happiest.

Good tunes at BADcamp 2011

on Wed, 10/26/2011 - 01:08

Yeah, yeah - I know it's anti-climatic to only read about it and not hear the evidence.

But the set(s) at the BADcamp 2011 Evening of Drupal were both really great, and really fun for me.  There were two of us spinning - me and DJ Spinnerty.  As I've done with my buddy James Millington, we set up my laptop as a remote drive to his computer (so we could get at both his music and mine), and used his laptop to play all the tunes (using Serato), trading off as the evening progressed. (Oh, yes - the image here is from Dan's own site - not mine. He admits the image is a bit tongue-in-cheek. :-)

BADcamp 2011 - tech & deep

on Mon, 10/17/2011 - 18:27

I'm going to be at BADcamp 2011 in Berkely this coming weekend.  I have three agendas:

  • Speaking. I'm giving a talk on Web Engagement Management.  "What," you say?"  If you're an average Drupalist, you may not have heard this term - yet. But you will a lot, soon.  It's the term that closed-source CMS' are using to frame where they're headed - which is to empower marketing more.  I will have a bunch more to say on this, but come to the session to hear the basics.
  • Listening. In support of the Web Engagement stuff, there's a bunch of things I want to hear - from talks on mobile themingmobile
